Bottom Line: Nice, smaller, fenced playground with good shade. A nice option for preschoolers. 3/5 stars.
The Review:
We popped in on this cute little park nestled in the Maywood neighborhood on a warm fall afternoon.
The play equipment seems to be geared towards preschool aged children; parents of runners will appreciate the fully enclosed perimeter of the park. There is a nice (small) concrete area, ideal for ride-on toys or sidewalk chalk — it does have a slight pitch to it, so everything runs downhill, towards the mulch.
The park has one main play structure, designed for the 2-5 crowd.
Play Structure
There are two regular swings, but no baby swings.
A small play house sits in a sandbox, although at this time of year, it was littered with leaves.
The leaves are a bi-product of the many mature trees that surround the play area. Although not important on a nice fall day, they provide a good shade canopy that would come in handy in warmer weather.
There is also a set of monkey bars, just low enough to be within reach for a certain precocious 3 year old.
Other Park Features
There are three boulders located together in the parks green space, they offer the opportunity for imaginative play.
In addition to ample bench seating, there are two sets of of checker/chess tables — I wonder if they get any use?
All in all, the Maywood Mini park is a nice neighborhood find. There are no bathrooms, and moms of crawlers may feel the absence of bucket swings, but it made for a nice visit the day we stopped by.
