Lincoln Park
Corner of Lincoln Ave. and Great Falls St.Falls Church, VA 22046
Website ~ Map Link
Bottom Line: This is an okay neighborhood playground at the corner of Lincoln Ave. and Great Falls St. It's nice that it is fenced, but the amenities aren't that impressive. 2/5 stars.
Worth Noting: this playground has terrible drainage -- it gets super swampy and muddy after any amount of rain.
The Review:
NOTE: This park review is out of date. The park was re-done and re-opened May 2013. Check out my new review, “Lincoln Park – Rebooted.”
This park is a nice little spot if you happen to be in the area and are looking for a place to let your little ones run around. I used to meet friends here after preschool, because it was a nice enclosed park with picnic tables we could eat lunch at and chat while the kids ran around.
There’s not a lot to this park, just two basic play structures, a set of swings, a dirty sandbox and a basketball court. Here’s a wide frame view of the park:
This is what the “big” play structure looks like:
My kids like the fireman’s pole and the wobbly bridge.
This is the smaller play structure:
There is a swingset with two regular swings and two bucket swings:
A basketball court that I’ve never seen anyone on. It would be good for little riders if you brought your own ride-on toys.
A tiny “sandbox”, although that is being generous with the description. There is dirty sand surrounding the box, but the contents of the box appeared to be dirt.
The biggest shortcoming of the park is it’s lack of drainage. Anytime there is any amount of rain, the park becomes a muddy mess. It had not been terribly rainy before we visited, but there were still big mud piles in the middle of the park.
Some kids were having a ball jumping in the mud, but thankfully my little boy doesn’t like the idea of getting grimy and he steered clear.
All in all, it’s a nice little park, but it’s not going to wow anyone. I think I like the park best for it’s close proximity to some of my favorite Falls Church eateries (Baja Fresh, Chipotle, Panera, ZPizza, etc.). It’s great to grab lunch with a friend and eat at the picnic tables while the kids run amuck.
