The Review:
It looks to be a beautiful January weekend, so how about a playground review? We visited Fort Barnard during the fall, after my son’s soccer game. The kids had a great time running around this playground, although some of the fun could be attributed to the fact that Daddy, aka “Captain Hook” was chasing them.
Fort Barnard features two play structures, swings, and an open field.
Big Kid Play Structure
There was one large play structure, designed for school age children.
It has quite a few components to it, including: a tube slide, slide bars (?), monkey bar/rings, zip slide, smaller slides, and a swinging bridge. My kids especially liked sliding down the parallel bars and trying to get all 3 of them across the zip slide.
Little Kids Play Structure
There is also a smaller play structure designed for younger kids. It has a boat theme (similar to Bon Air Park).
Swings
The playground has 2 bucket swings and 2 regular swings.
Other Park Features
There is a paved area next to the playground that would be good for ride-on toys. Unfortunately I noticed broken glass on it the day we went there.
There is also a basketball court, with a couple of picnic tables and a grassy playing field.
The county website say there is a water fountain, but I don’t remember seeing one. It was sunny the afternoon we went, so I’m not sure about morning shade but it would make a warm destination on a cool afternoon.

The county has been working on this park and it is reopening with a lot of improvements on June 21, 2014. I think it will be worth going back to and updating your review.
I was born in 1980 the field used have a metal slide with wood swings 🙂
