One of our favorite Christmas traditions is to visit a live nativity — where a church or organization acts out the birth of Christ, usually outside and usually including live animals.   There are several happening throughout the Metro DC area — many are happening this weekend.  Here is the list of the ones I’ve found out about — if you know of others, please share in the comments!

Lincoln Park / National Community Church  — Sat Dec 10th 4pm – 7pm
Lincoln Park
East Capitol and 11th St map
Washington, DC 20003

Join us for our largest Live Nativity on December 10 from 4-7 pm at Lincoln Park.

Harvest Church — Sat Dec 10th, 7, 7:30, & 8pm
7401 Beulah St.
Alexandria, VA 22315

The Live Nativity is a dramatic presentation of the night that Christ was born, featuring live animals, characters in biblical costume, music and narration. The animals are available for petting between performances. Free cookies and hot chocolate will be served and a small gift will be given to each child age 10 and under. This annual event is our Christmas gift to the Kingstowne community.

Parkwood Baptist’s Bethleham Walk  — December 10th & 11th 4pm – 8pm
8726 Braddock Road
Annandale, Virginia 22003

Come tour a re-creation of a street of Bethlehem at the time of Christ.
Enjoy live performances, animals, music, and refreshments.

Cherrydale UMC — Sunday, December 11, 6-8 pm
3701 Lorcom Lane, Arlington, VA 22207

Hear the story of the birth of Jesus, sing carols and music of the season
and enjoy cookies and hot drinks.  Live animals too!

Mt. Olivet UMC — Christmas Eve at 5:00, 5:20, and 5:40 pm
1500 N Glebe Road, Arlington 22207

Outside on the Green, rain or shine! Animals, carols, and a real baby Jesus! Each service is 20 minutes long – come to whichever fits your schedule. This is a favorite of young and old.

Washington DC Temple Festival of Lights — Daily 12/2 – 1/2 10am – 10pm
Washington, DC Church of Jesus Christ of Latter–day Saints Temple Visitors’ Center
9900 Stoneybrook Drive

In addition to the nightly performances and video presentations, the Washington D.C. Temple Visitors’ Center invites you to see the free display of over 100 crèches from around the world and and 16 Christmas trees decorated in international themes.
