Review: Hidden Oaks Nature Center

Last week, I met up with my sister-in-law for an outing at the Hidden Oaks Nature Center in Annandale.   The location was a good meeting point for us and I was curious about the special outdoor play area there.  It was called the “Nature Playce”, designed by an Eagle Scout.  After reading a glowing review on Our Kids, I was eager to try it out.

While waiting to meet up, the boys & I checked out the playground, and then went inside Nature Center.   I have to say, I was super impressed!  While the kids & I always have a good time at our county’s nature centers, they are definitely dated.    This building looked brand new and all of the exhibits were lovely, and interactive for all ages.   The kids loved exploring everything, I loved that it was a contained area and no one complained if they were too … ahem .. enthusiastic.

After checking out the inside, we headed out to explore the outside.   We could have gone directly into the Nature Playce, but instead took a short trail through the woods, which was good for exploring.   Once we got to the natural play area, the kids had a fun time roaming and playing, until ill tempers and lunch-time hunger got the best of them.     Overall, we had a great time and will definitely be back.  The outdoor play area is fun (just don’t forget the bug spray!!!), but the indoor space is equally entertaining and makes for a great rainy day activity.

Thanks for continuing to provide great ideas for stuff to do with my kids. This is about 10 minutes or so from our house. We haven’t been since Lydia was a little baby and now I am looking forward to going back soon.

      Margaret,

Thanks for stopping by! I changed the way I handled photos a while ago and as a result, many of my older posts no longer display photos properly. I just re-added the missing photos. Hidden Oaks is a great facility!
