Jelly Telly

Phil Vischer, co-creator of Veggie Tales, has come out with a new concept called “Jelly Telly.”  Phil explains that when Veggie Tales was created, VHS was the new cutting-edge technology taking America by storm.  But today, kids are exposed to media a variety of ways — iPods, online sites, cable, etc.  He had a vision to use the available technology to “bring the Bible to life for kids on a daily basis.”  His desire was and is to create content that helps teach kids about their faith and shows them what it is looks like to live it.

Thus, Jelly Telly was born.  You can go to the website anytime a watch the “show” for the day – it’s approximately 30 minutes of new content and it’s great!  (You can also watch the show from previous days in the week).  I’m not sure what the official age range is for the content, but I would guess it’s elementary school.  My preschoolers love it (as does my 40-something hubby).

I think of it as a Christian Sesame Street — they use animation, puppets ala the Muppets (have you met Buck Denver?  He’s got news for you!), songs, sketches, and even “movies of the week.”  The content is positive, scriptural and really well done.  My husband is a HUGE fan of the “Fabulous Bentley Brothers” and is as eager as the kids to see what the new songs is.

Jelly Telly used to operate on a subscription model ($3/mo), but now, in an effort to increase exposure it’s FREE!  You can’t beat that.  I highly encourage everyone to check it out because a) I really want it to succeed and be around for my kids and b) I really think you’ll love it too.

You can find a bunch of clips on You Tube, but I suggest you go straight to the source and check it out.  You can also “take a tour” on their site to get a sense of the offerings.

(I’m not getting anything in return for this endorsement – just hoping to keep them afloat!)

Here’s a few clips of some of our favorite components of the show:

Michael’s Movie Reviews

God’s Amazing Animals with Clive & Ian

The Fabulous Bentley Brothers! – Judges

Pirate Etiquette with Captain Pete

There’s a bunch more, but you really should check it out for yourself.  Jelly on, partner!
