Bottom Line: Smallish playground in Rosslyn. Fully enclosed, partially shady, no bathrooms, no swings, limited parking. 3/5 stars
The Review:
Rosslyn Highlands is a smallish playground tucked behind the Rosslyn Fire Station on Wilson Blvd. The park is on N. 18th St, and can be accessed via N. Quinn or N. Oak St off of Wilson Blvd.
Parents of runners will appreciate the park is fully fenced in but should keep in mind there is no bathroom available, unless you walk over to the fire station and beg to use theirs :).
The playground consists of one main play structure with several slides, a short crawl tube, tic-tac-toe board and a fireman’s pole.
There’s not much to it, it’s your typical older play structure, best suited for 2-5, I’d say.
Adjacent to the playground is a fenced basketball court. It was used for a while by some kids as a riding surface, but as the noon hour approached, adults started to show up for what was clearly a scheduled pick-up basketball game.
There is a spacious parking lot next to the playground, but it is labeled for fire station use only and threatens towing, so we didn’t park in it. There are a few un-metered spaces along 18th St, but they were all occupied, so we parked in a metered space near-by.
I hate to pay for parking, especially for a playground, so this park would not be a top choice for me. However, if you lived near-by or were in the area for another reason, it’d be a nice spot to run around and burn off some steam.
