Bottom Line: Nice shady park with fun equipment. No bathroom, busy road + no enclosed fence = not great for little runners. 3/5 stars
I have driven by Doctor’s Run Playground many times on our way to Barcroft Rec Center. Yesterday, I decided to stop and check it out.
It features one main play structure, a sandlot and some swings. It is mostly in the shade in the morning, making it a good choice on hot summer days. (These photos were taken around 11am).
The play equipment looks new and features lots of ways to climb. It also has four slides, a fireman’s pole and some stepping stones.
The kids loved climbing on all the different net-like structures. They thought the big circle was a spider’s web. The play structure is surrounded by a paved path that would be good for strollers or push toys.
There are two baby/bucket swings, one regular, and one accessible swing – complete with soft surface leading up to it for easy stroller/wheelchair access.
There are quite a few picnic tables and grills in the park.
There is also a volleyball court with a cinder surface.
Overall, this is a nice little shady park. It is on George Mason Drive which is a busy road, and only has picket fencing — there is nothing enclosed to keep little ones inside the playground. It also lacks a bathroom and the only parking available is on the street.
Overall, we found this to be a fun place for preschoolers with different climbing features than some of the other local parks.
