2015 Summer Bucket List

Yes, I know summer is half over.  But the first part of summer for us is filled with swim and dive team activities.  We are so busy I hardly have time to figure out how to feed the family.  But once August rolls around, we have lots of time to fill so I’m finally getting my act together and coming up with a list of stuff to do.

This is not an all-inclusive must-do DC list, and we certainly won’t fit it all in, but does give me some ideas to keep me from going crazy during the dog days of summer.  If you have places or activities to recommend, I’d love to hear about them.  Share in the comments below or on Facebook

Things to Do At Home

  • Make Homemade Ice cream
  • Kid Makes Dinner! Give each kid a turn to pick, plan, and cook the meal (with assistance)
  • Kids Make Dessert — let them pick out a *new* dessert recipe and help them make it.
  • Bake cookies and give to a neighbor
  • Write a letter to our sponsored child (Compassion International)
  • Family Game Night
  • Evening neighborhood walk
  • Throw Frisbees at the field
  • Mom Read Aloud Books — so far:  The Great BrainThe Watsons Go to Birmingham, BOMB (listening on audio cd);  More ideas

D.C. may be the seat of power and politics but we really enjoyed our summer here. There were tons of museums and memorials for you to explore and many of them are free. And we didn’t just limit ourselves to that. Whether you’re looking for the best crabs or seafood, then crack them open at Cantler’s. This waterfront restaurant is a true Chesapeake tradition. Another good thing about D.C. is that you don’t need to go far for a peaceful hike. There are numerous trails here like Bearfence Trail and Locust Grove Nature Trails.
