A Partially Paleo Easter Menu

Thursday April 5, 2012

Easter is almost upon us and I am looking forward to hosting family at our house.   It will be an interesting challenge to put together a menu that appeals to both the cave people (Mike & I) and the “neolithic eaters” (aka everyone else).  Some of the menu will be primal (P), others will be close enough that I don’t mind cheating on this special day, and others will be not a healthy choice, but hey… ya gotta live sometimes 🙁

Easter Dinner Menu

Serving: 7 adults, 4 kids

Honey-Baked Ham — these hams are chock full of sugar, so not really Paleo, but always a crowd-pleaser

Grilled Turkey Breast (P) — cooking a turkey breast on the grill will free up the oven and provide a more primal meat choice

Strawberry Saladoption 1, 2, 3 — I’m still trying to figure out which option will be sweet enough for those used to the more sugar-laden version.

Roasted Asparagus (P)roasting asparagus in the oven is my favorite way to cook it. It is delish and easy, and relatively affordable right now.

Bacon Basil Twice Baked Sweet Potatoes (P)— this PaleOMG recipe is soooo good. I will make it head and reheat the day of.

Quinoa Salad — quinoa is not really paleo, but as far as grains go, it’s a good one.  I can’t decide if I want to make a Spicy Quinoa-Cucumber-Tomato Salad or this Mango Pepper Quinoa Salad (sans black beans).

Deviled Eggs (P) deviled eggs are paleo when you use homemade Paleo Mayo.

Rolls — these will be brought and enjoyed by the neolithic eaters.

Dessert  — there are some excellent Paleo-style desserts out there, but in this case, I probably won’t get around to making them.  I’m going to ask family to bring dessert, which means it will be non-Paleo and ooh so delicious.   If I do make something, it would most likely be a flourless chocolate torte (or this one).

Quinoa is not a grain, it’s a seed and very paleo.
