I enjoyed a lovely low key birthday weekend.
On Friday, my beloved planned out and prepared a delicious steak and shrimp birthday dinner and made homemade tiramisu cupcakes. Yum!
I received a cupcake with two candles, because, according to the pastry chef, “that’s how many years less than 40 you are”.
Adam thought it was hilarious that I had two candles, he thought that meant I was two, so he kept saying, “I’m older than you because I’m three, but you’re bigger than me.”
We capped out our evening by getting into our jammies and watching The Muppet Christmas Carol. The kids especially enjoyed it because they are participating in a similarly themed Christmas musical in a week.
My daughter made this card for me. The words on the inside were the best kind of present.
The inside reads:
Dear Mom, I love you a lot. You make me smile a lot. I love you.
Saturday was a mix of running around, birthday parties (other kids, not mine), and getting the Christmas decor up. We ended up bailing on a Sunday school Christmas party because we had to be in bed early for Sunday.
On Sunday, we were the selected family to kick of the “Advent Season” tradition at our church. This meant our whole family came up on stage; Mike introduced us, Wendy read a verse, and we lit the first week’s advent candle. It was cute and fun, just slightly exhausting as it required us to be there way early practice and then stick around for all three services.
I saw this as a good chance to get everyone’s Christmas outfits in order and tried to get us all gussied up. I have to say, we looked pretty good and the kids were uber cute.
Today we spent our time putting up the tree and finishing the indoor decor. If I hadn’t wasted my time watching the Redskins lose, I might have even gotten to the outdoor lights.
All in all, it’s been a pretty good weekend and I have much to celebrate!
