Discover The Local Market … and a Giveaway!

Do you love farmers markets?  I do … in theory.  In reality, we rarely go.   While I love the idea of buying fresh local produce, it rarely works out that we are free Saturday mornings, and in all honestly, I’ve gotten so used to buying cheap produce at the Asian markets I find it hard to stomach some of the high prices I’ve found at farmer’s markets.

When I heard about a new store in Falls Church called The Local Market, I was curious to check it out.

The Local Market (TLM) sells farm fresh local produce, organic dairy products, fresh baked breads and specialty items — just the kind of stuff you’d find at the farmer’s market, but conveniently open every day of the week (hours are 9am-8pm daily).

Inside of the store, I found an attractive display of produce.

In addition to produce, TLM sells organic dairy products and a variety of specialty items — things like honey, jams, and sauces.

They also carry a selection of fresh baked bread.

I have to say, I am so pleased to discover the Local Market!

The specialty stuff looks great, but honestly, it’s not what brought this frugal shopper into the store.   The pricing for those items is similar to what you’d pay at the farmer’s market, with the convenience of purchasing it any day of the week.

The produce is what I really love.  The pricing is slightly higher than the Asian markets, but quite reasonable and in some cases, cheaper than grocery store prices.  Everything we’ve had so far has been fresh and flavorful.

Other perks of the store — convenient FREE parking, right behind the store — TLM is in the shopping strip with Doodlehopper Toys, across from the old post office building.

Also, the owners are great.  Tom Coates is born and raised in Falls Church and is a super nice guy.  He’s a dad with young kids and very responsive to meeting the customer’s needs.   TLM has a bulletin board posted by the back door where customers can request items.

Shopping at The Local Market is a real treat — it has that old timey feel of what community and a neighborhood grocery store is supposed to be.    I was so thrilled to discover TLM, I wanted to share it with you.   I asked Tom if I could host a giveaway on my blog and he said yes!

I have been to the market twice and the produce and cookies were fantastic. Will definitely go back for those! Unfortunately, I tried challah, crusty rolls and rustic bread and they all were dry and flavorless. There was a simple white label with no brand (not Great Harvest) so I’m not sure who’s baking them!
