We have had a few days of gloomy rain, and I’ve been itching to do something fun with the kids. So when today’s soccer game was canceled due to wet fields, but no actual rain fell from the sky, we decided to head to Homestead Farm for some apple picking.
Homestead has become our favorite Pick Your Own farm due to it’s close proximity (~40 minutes from Arlington), lack of gate fee, reasonable prices, and variety of produce. We usually try to visit during strawberry and peach season as well.
We arrived mid-morning and found the orchard plentiful.
We picked Cameos, Pink Ladies, and Honey Crisp, with relative ease.
It didn’t take us long to fill our Homer Bucket with $21 worth of apples. (Homer Bucket not needed, HF provides baskets).
After picking, the kids enjoyed playing on the half buried tires and rotting hay.
Snagging a ride on the wheelbarrow was also a highlight. It served as a poor substitute for Mike’s normal Saturday WOD.
The kids also enjoyed checking out the farm animals. Piggies, and goats and cows, oh my!
Inspired by one our favorite kids books, I begged the kids to participate in a photo op.
Daddy, of course, is always one to raise the bar. Must be all that Crossfit training.
After a great morning of apple picking, we are looking forward to eating a lot of apple crisp!
Sam wants some apple pie, so we’ll probably make some of that too.
How was your weekend?
