Faith Matters: Moms In Touch

Today is the first day of school for my elementary kiddos.  For some moms, especially moms of kindergartners, saying good-bye to your baby as he or she boards the bus can be a little sad or even scary.   Our school PTA hosts a “Boo Hoo” breakfast for parents of new students, but I’d like to share about something even better than that.

What is Moms In Touch, you ask?

Moms In Touch (MIT) is an international prayer ministry that brings moms together to pray for children and schools in more than 130 countries.  Each group is focused on a school (or schools) in the community; and the women who gather to pray are the moms of children who attend that school.  According to MIT, the purpose of the organization is:

  • To pray that our children will receive Jesus as Lord and Savior, then stand boldly in their faith.
  • To pray for teachers and staff.
  • To pray that teachers, administrative staff, and students would come to faith in Jesus Christ.
  • To provide support and encouragement to moms who carry heavy burdens for
    their children.
  • To pray that our schools will be directed by biblical values and high moral standards
  • To be an encouragement and a positive support to our schools

Our group meet weekly throughout the school year at home close to our elementary school.   Our meetings are informal, simple gatherings where our sole purpose is to spend time in corporate prayer.  Occasionally, we did things at school to show our support, like provide treats for the teachers lounge.

If you are not used to praying out loud in a group, the idea can seem intimidating or awkward, but don’t let it scare you.   The leader typically has the prayer time organized into four sections — Praise, Confession, Thanksgiving, and Intercession — and has provided  a supporting a scripture verse for each section.  Someone volunteers to take the lead for each section, reading the verse and opening that time in prayer.   Anyone else who feels led joins in.

It has been such a blessing to get to know other Christian moms at my school and to know that our kids are being covered in prayer.   Its also a great way to make connections with other moms in your school if you are new.

You can find a Moms In Touch group in your area by using their Group Finder.   It will list the schools in your area and show if a chapter has already been filled at your school; if not, an area coordinator can assist you in starting one.

Moms In Touch has been an invaluable to me and I share it with you, in hopes that you too will look for a local chapter and get plugged into this excellent ministry.
