Last night, I had some ladies over to enjoy a night out (in) and check out some fine jewelry. Since the air has turned cool, it seemed like a good night to make this delicious apple crisp. I got the recipe from a friend from my mom’s group and I love it because it tastes and smells soooo good. So, I thought I would share it with you. It smelled so good, I forgot to take a picture before diving in, so I used the picture above from Flickr to demonstrate the yumminess.
Lara’s Nana’s Apple Crisp
- 1/2 bag of yellow delicious apples
- 1/2 bag granny smith apples
- ~1/2 tsp. lemon juice
- ~1/2 tsp cinnamon
- 1 stick margarine (I use butter), softened
- 1/4 cup Quaker oats
- 1/2 cup flour
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
Preheat oven to 350°. Butter a shallow baking dish.
Peel core and slice apples. After slicing each apple, put the slices in a mixture of water and lemon juice to keep them from browning, then transfer to shallow baking dish. Repeat until dish is full of apples.
Note: My 9″ x 9″ pan held about 5 large apples.
Sprinkle apples with cinnamon (I didn’t measure the amount).
In a separate bowl, combine butter, flour, oats, and sugar until crumbly. You can mix with a wooden spoon, but I found using my fingers worked well. Spread crumbs over apples.
Bake at 350° for 45 min to 1 hour. For an extra treat, serve with ice cream.
