Ringing in the New Year with a Fizz, Stomp and a Bang

Our New Years was completely boring.  We did not take our usual trip to the little cabin in the big woods and we did not make any plans at home.

Mike bought some sparkling cider for the kids and we let them have some in celebration, around 9pm.

Then he and I stayed up playing the Wii, drinking some adult bubbly, until we realized it was after midnight.  Happy New Year!

On New Year’s Day, we went up to the high school field to try out Sam’ new Stomp Rockets and RC car.  They were a big hit .. until Sam actually hit his mommy with a rocket and lost his privileges.

On January 2nd, Adam decided to start his year off with a bang.  It was about 8 in the morning, and I was still in bed when I heard Adam making loud crying noises (the real kind).  Mike and Sam were also downstairs and Sam came running up to give me the report:

“Adam was climbing on the stool and it fell over and banged him on the head and he needs a bandaid!”

When I saw him, it was clear he needed more than a bandaid.

Mike called the pediatrician, who said take him to the ER for stitches.  I suggested going to Fairfax Inova as I’ve heard they have far better care for kids than VHC.   They got there around 9am and were seen right away.  It seems Saturday morning is the ideal time to visit the ER.  The whole process still took about 2 hours (I don’t think it’s possible to get out of there faster) and he came home with 4 blue stitches.

Mike says he was a trooper and hardly fussed.  Since coming home, he seems totally unphased and has resumed his climbing skills.  He reminds me of another little monkey boy I know who split his head open right before his second birthday …

Who knows what the rest of the year will bring, but we’ve definitely started off with more excitement than I had planned!

Poor Adam! Or should I say poor Momma?! Sounds like he’s related to Sam for sure :)

The stomp rocket looks like a success. Good for you guys for getting in some outdoor fun!

I am glad Adam is okay. Those stitches look pretty cool!

I think Adam and Ian would get along famously! Ian LOVES to climb everything under the sun…it’s a wonder we haven’t wound up at the ER yet. Oh wait, we did when he and big brother Zach caused Ian’s bedroom dresser to tip over (this summer), thankfully Ian was okay. Rest assured all of their furniture is nor bolted to the wall :).

Stomp rockets! I want some of those! For my boys, of course. LOL!
