Adam has been keeping me on my toes these days. He is so busy and so full of life. He is constantly cracking us up with his silliness.
He often runs full speed with his hands tucked into his armpits, elbows flapping like an albatross. I have been unsuccessful in getting it captured on video but will continue to try as it cracks Mike & I up. He goes to two different Mother’s Day out programs each week and has a blast. Some kids his age experience separation anxiety. Not him, he can’t wait to get the party started and barely gives me a backwards glance before charging off to play with the toys.
At home, he tries to run with big brother and big sister. Don’t try tell him he’s not yet two (never mind 4 or 5). He gets mad when he has to sit in the high chair and they get to sit at the kids table. If they are jumping on (and off) the couch, he climbs up to join the fun. I’ve gotten a little lax about trying to rein in his free spirit – I tend to let him run wild in the house and hope for the best. The other day, this bit me in the you know what.
I was sitting in our dining room sorting mail or something when I heard a strange gurgling noise. I tried to figure out where it was coming from, as the kids were playing in the family room and the TV was on. I walked around, listening for the sound. I finally isolated it – it was coming from the air duct that goes down into the basement. It was the sound of water dripping …
You may recall, back in May, our upstairs toilet broke. It flooded the upstairs bath, ran down the walls and flooded the mudroom and powder room beneath. It was a huge disaster and it took forever for the contractor to finish all the details. Like, the last trim wasn’t put back in place until early October.
Back to my story … water in the basement meant it was coming from above. I raced into the mudroom and saw a pool of water on the powder room floor. I quickly determined it wasn’t coming from the powder room, which meant… it was coming from the bathroom above. Carp! I raced upstairs and saw what I already knew. Adam had climbed up and turned on the water in the sink. After a while, he got bored and moved on, but of course didn’t turn anything off. To make it worse, that sink had a slow drain — the water was pouring over the edge of the sink and completely filled the tiny bathroom floor.
Ahh!! I turned it off, called Mike, apologizing profusely and got to sopping, mopping and sobbing. The damage was far less than last time, but we were still facing either another $500 deductible or an $800 bill just for the water damage. Wah … might be time for another yard sale …
Moving on to other Adam exploits. He’s mastered another skill that I’m less than thrilled about. He, on the other hand, thinks it’s the bees knees. Rather than type another tale, I’ll let the pictures do the talking:

Some have suggested a crib tent, but I think we’re just going to roll with it. Sam learned to climb out of his crib (I forget what age, maybe around 2?). For now, the plan is to leave the crib rail down and keep the extra crib mattress on the floor for a softer landing.
Another Adam milestone that I am excited about is his new-found interest in books. For the longest time, he wouldn’t sit through ANY book, no matter how short or engaging the pictures were, he was too busy to sit still. Now he has gotten really interested in board books and especially loves Good Night Moon and Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See?.

I love reading him books before naptime and bedtime and seeing his eyes light up at the red “bah-oun” (balloon) or hearing him meow at the purple cat. His vocabulary is also really starting to take off and it’s fun to hear him use more words and be more expressive. It is a really fun time to watch him devleop and grow.
Every day is an adventure with the Ash-man. I just hope I can keep up!

OK,he has the cutest smile! He would definitely get away with so much at my house! He’s such a super busy lil guy! Gonna keep you on your toes!
OK, I continue to love this child!
Oh. my. Sounds like super fun at your house! And such a cutie, too!
Oh, he is so cute! Too bad about the water damage.
My Wendy had that same black t-shirt.
I love the trademark smile. Where the other son will be the “bad boy” and steal hearts, you can see how Adam is going to do it. He is a cute little dude!
Got drywall skills?
