Theatre Camp

We have entered the “camp” portion of our summer.  We had a wonderful week of VBS, followed by a fun week of “theatre” camp.  I signed Wendy & Sam up for this on a whim, not knowing much about it, but I had heard positive things from my local mom’s group.   The Educational Theatre Company runs a variety of programs.  The program for preschoolers is designed to “increase motor skills, creativity, intellectual and social development … [and] is great way to continue learning in a fun and creative environment for the summer.”  The theme for the session was “Wizards and Fairies” and the description claimed:

During this camp your child has the opportunity to explore the mystical world of fairy tales like never before. Your child will take an adventure into the land of wizards and fairies, of princes and princesses, of silly dragons and daring journeys. Stories come to life like never before, as kids act out the stories, songs and poems of their favorite fairy tales. Your child will learn to use their bodies, voices and imaginations as they learn listening, sharing, self esteem and a little about teamwork.

I don’t know if the stories came to life “like never before”, but I do know both kids had a great time.   Each day, I would pick them up and try and glean what fun things did or learned.  I would get snippets of information, but mostly Wendy would tell me about her buddy “Henry”.   Apparently, she and this young fella were inseparable.  Hoo boy, I thought I had bout 8 more years before I had to worry about boys!  Anywho, the kids put on a little performance at the end of the week that was very cute.   Their costumes were crafts they had worked on each day and they were so proud of their performances.

Enjoy, these little clips (although I’m sure they are not that interesting if you are not related).

For the fairy portion, the kids acted out several short poems, including this one:

Then, for the “wizard” part of the show, they acted out the story of the Magic Hat:

In conclusion, the kids had a great week, and I give the ETC a big thumbs up.
