Last week was spring break for the local school systems, which meant our preschool(s) were off that week too. We decided to take a short 2 day trip down to Richmond. We stayed with friends Randy & Michelle, and their adorable boy Zach, who is about 6 weeks younger than Adam. On Tuesday, we visited the Children’s Museum (after hitting good ole Krispy Kreme) which was really fun. Then on Wednesday, we went to the Lewis Ginter Botanical Gardens which was beautiful and also fun. We headed back for home that afternoon in time for dinner. I’ll let the pictures do the talking:

Krispy Kreme!

Watching the donuts get made

Adam partook of the yummy goodness.

My three munchers.

Chowing down.

Adorable Zach!

Krispy Kreme!

Outside the Children’s Museum

Everybody loved picking “apples” from the apple tree.

Lots of play activities – like the ambulance

Wendy & Sam try their hands as grease monkeys.

The news studio was so cool! It had a working camera that could be controlled.

And a news desk where kids could give their reports. Everything was displayed on a CCTV.

They did some digging for dino bones.

Zach had fun with finger paints. The little kids room (in the back) was a cool stop where all the kids had fun.

Adam was not a happy camper and grumped a fair bit.

Go Speed Racer!

Wendy hitched a ride from her bros.

More dino fun.

The water area is always a big hit.

Time to make art.

Sam worked on an orange canvas.

Wendy made easter eggs.

They had a dress-up/performance area. Wendy wedged herself into this costume.

Back at Casa de Zach aka funland.

Sam loved the toys.

Caution – Monster crossing.

Another baby monster up for a slide.

Tues eve Kim & Jer came over for dinner – we all enjoyed hanging with them.

Wednesday – we visited the Lewis Ginter Botanical Gardens.

It is lovely.

it was a little cool- but a beautiful day to be out and the gardens were exquisite.

Wendy pointed to some flowers she saw and liked so we could “show Grammy” – this is a Giant Snowflake

She also liked the camillas.

The babies mostly hung out in their strollers…

.. while Michelle took the big kids on a “secret path over a waterfall”.

The tulips were in bloom and quite gorgeous.

Wendy liked these. Don’t you like her crown, accentuated by 3 barrettes on top?

Another picturesque bridge.

The daffodils also looked lovely.

The childrens garden was the highlight, of course.

Pinwheels had been planted for donations made to some organization (preventing child abuse, maybe?)

Cute “hands of thanks”

Beautiful planters

A view of the “tree house” – see my squirrels in the window?

Looking across the “lake” to the big greenhouse.

A shot out the window of the treehouse.

This fun mulberry tree was perfect for climbing.

The kids enjoyed climbing up.

Onwards and upwards!

Look at me!

hi mom!

Having fun in the sandbox. Finally something for the babies to do.

A fun bath tub planter.

Approaching the greenhouse.

The kids liked the sunken garden.

Inside the greenhouse.

One the way back, I just happened to notice one of the bricks was inscribed with my extended family’s name. What a coincidence that I saw it!

Beautiful violas.
