Baby soothers

Wendy took a pacifier. Sam took nothing. I’ve been curious to see what what Adam will do to soothe himself. Often times, he will go to sleep with no soothie needed.

Occasionally, especially when he was newer, he would go to sleep sucking on a pacifier. However, more and more, he’s been finding his thumb.

At first, he would simply suck on his fingers, not really focusing on the thumb.

But then, once he started to find his thumb, he knew how to put it to good use.

The funny thing is, it still doesn’t always occur to him that his thumb might make him happy. The other day, he was fussing in the swing. I knew he was tired, but he couldn’t seem to let himself conk out. So he just sat there, swinging and crying. I took pity on him and found his pacifier. It took a couple of tries to convince him to keep it in, but once he latched on to it, he started sucking on it hard and calmed down.

He was quiet, so I turned away to check something on the computer. A few minutes later, I turned back. He was still quiet, but he found an upgrade to his pacifier.

At least I won’t have to worry about losing his thumb…
